I'M RUNNING TO REPRESENT YOU
I’m Laurel Burchfield and I’m running to represent you on the Shawnee City Council. This year, we have a chance to elect common-sense leaders who will make the right decisions so Shawnee can continue to be a great place to live, work, and play for everyone. I hope I earn your vote this November.
MY VISION FOR SHAWNEE
On September 13th, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce hosted a candidate forum for Shawnee City Council candidates. Our answers to questions on economic development, housing opportunities, support for businesses, and more created a stark difference between myself and my opponent regarding our vision for this city and what we believe to be the responsibility of elected officials in making Shawnee a better place for all of our residents.
Please watch below to learn more about my vision for Shawnee and how I would prioritize making Shawnee a welcoming place for everyone who wants to make our city their home.
MY PRIORITIES
Shawnee is a vibrant community where everyone feels welcome and at home. From our businesses to our parks, our schools to our neighborhoods - we embrace everyone. The culture and practices of City Council should be a reflection of our community. I will listen to our neighbors to make sure we're meeting the needs of everyone in our community.
A City for
Everyone
Good
Governance
Shawnee has seen significant turnover in city staff. In less than two years, six managers and directors have resigned their positions. City council members should listen to the expertise of skilled staff while balancing staff recommendations with community input as well as their own expertise. I will work to instill trust between our council members and staff, and be a good steward of the funding, resources, and talent of our city.
Strong & Resilient Development
Shawnee is a growing city with downtown rejuvenation and residential expansion. We can maintain our hometown with heart while also growing to accommodate new needs for our residents and businesses. I will champion developments and infrastructure maintenance that align with our comprehensive plan while intentionally and sustainably building our future.
